LJ Hooker Walkerville | Modbury’s fundraising endeavours have helped the leading real estate group record a collective $7 million in community donations for people in need.

LJ Hooker Walkerville | Modbury’s fundraising initiatives and donations have contributed to the group notching the landmark figure ahead of LJ Hooker foundation day, held on September 20 – the 89th anniversary of the iconic real estate brand.

Launched a year ago, the LJ Hooker Foundation now consolidates the grass-roots fundraising activities of its network for major donations to charity partners Cystic Fibrosis Australia and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

Over the past year alone $571,927 has been raised to buy children’s life-saving medical equipment in paediatric wards, neonatal units, intensive care and emergency departments around the country for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation as well as to launch the Cystic Fibrosis Australia Consumer Connect – a world-first online community hub established to bring together the Australians effected by Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Funds have also been devoted to research for Cystic Fibrosis.

LJ Hooker Walkerville | Modbury Principal Jarrad Boffo said: “We keenly support the community that so readily supports us. Everyone at LJ Hooker Walkerville | Modbury actively participates in their local communities and gives us great pride to know we’re helping to make a difference amongst the neighbourhoods we work and live in”.

Heather Hilton, LJ Hooker Foundation spokeswoman, said the LJ Hooker Foundation had helped local offices engage with their community and make a difference to the lives of children and Cystic Fibrosis sufferers across the country.

“On any given weekend, LJ Hooker teams around the country are fundraising for our charity partners or local causes to make a tangible difference in the communities in which they live and work,” she said.
“LJ Hooker Foundation allows us to formally receipt and facilitate these donations ensuring that every dollar raised is accounted for and has a charitable purpose.”
“In just one year, the LJ Hooker Foundation has already proven how powerful our network can be when we work together for a common cause.

“When we launched last year, our goal was to raise $1 million over five years. Already we are more than halfway there.

“It has been incredible to see how the LJ Hooker Foundation has been embraced by our national network of offices,” she said.

Paul Francis, OAM, Founder and Executive Chairman of Humpty Dumpty Foundation, said they were proud to have been associated with the LJ Hooker Foundation for the past year.

“It has been a wonderful partnership with LJ Hooker offices able to fundraise and support their local hospitals, further strengthening ties to the communities they work in,” Mr Francis said.

“While supporting a national objective to ensure that it shouldn’t matter where you are born, you should have the same access to quality medical equipment and the best possible care our wonderful doctors and nurses can provide.

“In the past 12 months, LJ Hooker has provided 14 pieces of vital, often life-saving medical equipment to 12 hospitals, right across the country. Humpty looks forward to continuing our work with kids in hospital across Australia – together with the support of LJ Hooker, we can make a huge difference.”

Nettie Burke, CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Australia, said the Consumer Connect platform had also already changed lives.

“Cystic Fibrosis isolates sufferers due to the high level of cross infection. LJ Hooker could see the need for an infection free and knowledge sharing platform that could bind the CF community and provide great insights and value,” Ms Burke said.

“Most recently we used the Consumer Connect platform to live stream the 12th Australasian Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Melbourne. Ordinarily people with CF cannot attend the Conference as the risk of cross infection is simply too high. Consumer Connect allowed the people who need the most up to date information to access the conference content.”

September 20, 2017, will mark 89 years since LJ Hooker first opened for business on the sandy shores of Maroubra in Sydney.

To support the LJ Hooker Foundation and recognise everyone’s contribution packets of Golden Everlasting Daisy seeds were sent to everyone in the LJ Hooker network as a symbol of how from little things, big things can be achieved. Fifty cents from each packet was donated to the LJ Hooker Foundation.

“Our founder, Sir Leslie Hooker, was a great believer in supporting the community,” said Ms Hilton.

“He was knighted in 1973 for his services to the community and his belief and actions in supporting local communities are the basis that has seen LJ Hooker become the iconic brand it is today. We’re proud that Sir Les’ legacy lives on.”
